About Donations

Out! Cairns isn’t just about having a good time – it’s also about donations back into the community. Annually, Out! Cairns donates leftover funds raised at its events to charities, so rest assured that the $5 you’ve paid as cover charge at the parties every month not only covers the expenses of putting the nights on, but also goes towards a number of worthwhile causes.

In 2016, we donated $1000 to the Tropical Mardi Gras festival for the benefit of the local LGBT+ community, and also donated the proceeds from August CHOOSE LIFE 80s Party (over $1300) to the victims of the Orlando Pulse shootings. This year, we saw it as our responsibility as global LGBT+ citizens to contribute towards our brothers and sisters and their families who were affected by this tragedy.

Thank you to the 300+ patrons who attended the 80s party for making it such a huge success so that we could make this significant donation.

In 2015, Out! Cairns donated:

  • $4000 to Local Cancer Charity, COUCH
  • $4000 to the Ravenshoe Explosion Disaster Appeal
  • $500 to ARC Disability Services

In November 2013, Out! Cairns donated $2500 to the Declan Crouch Fund in aid of youth suicide. This worthwhile local charity was set up under the Dr Edward Koch Foundation by Ruth Crouch after losing her son to suicide. The funds have been put towards a suicide prevention project for local schools, and a media campaign to help address the high suicide rates of young LGBT people.

Over the past 8 years, Out! Cairns has also donated to:

  • Wapenamanda Centre for Primary Health Care in Papua New Guinea, a charity providing HIV/AIDS education, awareness, and support activities to people living with HIV and AIDS ($2500)
  • The local Lesbian Health Action Group ($1000)
  • Cairns Transsexual Social Group to provide a safe social space to transsexual people ($500)
  • OutLOUD Cairns Lesbian and Gay Choir and social group for gay and lesbian people that love to sing ($1000)
  • 2012 Queensland Transgender Sistergirl & Gender Diverse Conference
  • Queensland AIDS Council
  • Cairns Tropical Pride
